About me
I grew up in the unincorporated outskirts of Rogersville, Tennessee, raised in bad public schools and fundamentalist churches. Despite spending my teenage years yearning for a mythologized version of New York City, I instead left at eighteen for the rolling hills of Amherst, Massachusetts.
I graduated from Hampshire College in May 2008. While there, I was news editor of The Climax and a student representative on various school committees. Along the way, I interned with United for a Fair Economy and The American Prospect. After deciding I didn’t really want to be a struggling magazine journalist in Washington, DC, I decided to go to graduate school instead.
I’m currently a first year student in a political science Ph.D. program in NYC. Besides politics and academia, I like music, food and wine, good fiction, and really strong black coffee.
